I have 2 Sun tapes that I'm afraid have just bit the dust. I'd like any
tips that you could provide. I'm using both of them with a NetBSD/sparc
machine. The first one comes up just fine:
May 2 11:46:23 subversion /netbsd: st0 at scsibus0 target 5 lun 0:
<ARCHIVE, Python 28454-XXX, 4.BL> tape removable
May 2 11:46:23 subversion /netbsd: st0: drive empty
May 2 11:46:23 subversion /netbsd: st0: sync (200.00ns offset 15),
8-bit (5.000MB/s) transfers
And successfully completes a backup operation with tar. Trying a tar tvf
gives me this:
May 3 05:52:48 subversion /netbsd: st0: 10240-byte tape record too big
for 2048-byte user buffer
May 3 05:52:48 subversion /netbsd: st0(esp0:0:5:0): Check Condition on
CDB: 0x08 00 00 08 00 00
May 3 05:52:48 subversion /netbsd: SENSE KEY: No Additional Sense
May 3 05:52:48 subversion /netbsd: Incorrect Length
Indicator Set
May 3 05:52:48 subversion /netbsd: INFO FIELD: -8192
May 3 05:52:48 subversion /netbsd: ASC/ASCQ: No Additional Sense
Information
The second tape claims it's this:
st0 at scsibus0 target 3 lun 0: <EXABYTE, EXB-8500SMBANXH1, 0458> tape
removable
st0: density code 21, 1024-byte blocks, write-enabled
st0: sync (248.00ns offset 11), 8-bit (4.032MB/s) transfers
And I get errors similar to this while writing to the tape:
May 3 06:09:44 subversion /netbsd: st0(esp0:0:3:0): Check Condition on
CDB: 0x0a 00 00 08 00 00
May 3 06:09:45 subversion /netbsd: SENSE KEY: Media Error
May 3 06:09:46 subversion /netbsd: INFO FIELD: 2048
May 3 06:09:49 subversion /netbsd: COMMAND INFO: 1 (0x1)
May 3 06:09:51 subversion /netbsd: ASC/ASCQ: Write Append
Position Error
May 3 06:09:52 subversion /netbsd:
May 3 06:09:54 subversion /netbsd: 2048
Is there anything that can be done to fix these things? Cleaning tapes, etc?
