Simple... I have some 1.6 inch height drives (and may be getting some
more)... and you can't put them in 12 slot enclosures because the 
drive body would hit the SCA connector above the slot that you 
would try to put the 1.6 inch height drive in.

I suppose I could desolder and remove every other SCA connector from
the 711 backplane.... but it's just easier to swap with someone who
wants 12 slots :-)
