[rescue] OT: "Serial port"-less laptop.. Options?

I have a "modern" laptop. The designers seemed to think it was a good
idea to do without a serial port. I have USB and cardbus/pcmcia and a
crappy winmodem for good measure (Lucent LTMODEM on pci0, dev 16). I
want a serial port and I want to access it like a regular serial port
under DOS. Preferably, it would show up as COM1 or COM2. I doubt the
USB adapters would make this possible. So, pcmcia might work. Does
anyone out there know?
