They don't last very long before they need maintenance or replacement,
unfortunately, unless you spend a TON of money.  Where PV cells shine is
in remote locations where it's not practical to bring in more fuel or
batteries or run wiring, like satellites.

This is for the present, of course.  They're getting better.
