So do many "American" cars.

Don't get me started on bicycle hardware ... even top-end bikes use a
bizarre mixture of threading and heading standards.  I think a lot of the
more bizarre stuff has died out since I quit racing, but if you want to hear
a rant, ask any older bikie about "French threads."

Just be glad it isn't Whitworth.
