Ain't that the truth...

I started out about eight years ago, doing development on IBM mainframes. Then, I did a 1.5-year stint on Tandem, only to find that afterward no-one would hire me to do IBM mainframe work anymore. After all, I was now a "Tandem-specialist". Never mind the 3 years of experience on IBM mainframes.

The past year, I have done mainly Java (web) development. Now I'm going back to Tandem work. Guess what the first question was in the interview last week...

"Think you can still work on a Tandem? It's been so long..."

AARGH!

At least I could now counter that with, "why, I have a Tandem at home!" ever mind that it's just a rebadged SGI Indy. It's not as if Mr. I-Control-The-Hiring-Budget-Now-Grovel-In-The-Dirt-Before-Me knows the difference, anyway.
