Hi Lads
I snagged an unwanted datacenter UPS today. It is a Powerware 9305 - the
particular model I have is rated for a 15kVA/10.5kW load. I'm going to use
this unit to consolidate all the power connections running into my server
farm.
The input side is three phase but it has a full double conversion internal
layout with a single phase output. It looks like it has never been configured
with internal batteries - the backup power is provided by an external power
rack that holds 96 x 7Ah/12V lead acid cells (over 300kg of batteries!).
The unit is very clean and only three years old. Even if I have to replace the
batteries sometime in the next two years I reckon I'll still come out ahead.
The UPS was free for removal if I covered the price of shipping (which cost
me about $340 USD).
Apparently it is easier to give this sort of thins away then to pay for the cost
of disposal (because of all the Pb in the batteries). Who am I to complain!
Regards,
Gavin
