So, the first time I do  "emerge rsync && emerge -u world" I need to be
prepared to be online for a month or more without power outages, and
hope things don't change in the middle?

Yeah, I'm not saying it sucks in general or anything.  I'm just dubious
about trying to make it work from a dial-up connection.
