[rescue] booting onyx - only mouse pointer shows

Do you know how the machine was used?  Off the top of my head, it sounds
like it was reconfigured by the previous owner to be that way for a
reason.  I wouldn't know how to easily put it back.  I'd recommend just
reloading the OS.
