Excel is possibly the most usefull MS product, and quite possibly also
the most abused.  In theory SIAG, Gnumeric, and OpenOffice can keep up,
but I haven't seen anyone pull it off yet.

BTW, for many, many years, Excel was a rather rogue project at MS.  They
even went so far as to maintain their own compilers for use developing
Excel rather than use the ones MS provided.

What would have really rocked, if his old job would have bought an
adequate machine, would have been to have gotten him onto something like
OpenDX.
