The last time I spoke to anyone at Merrill Lynch was back in 1996 when
I was selling NextStep (in this case, for Sparc).  The NextStep DBKit
which later became EOF was considered the bee's knees for custom
db-backed apps.  At that time Sybase and Oracle were in close
competition.
