[rescue] cdrom woes again...

All of those sound like typical problems when you try to use a CDROM 
drive that isn't supported under the OS/hardware combo.  Sometimes they 
work, sometimes they work sporadically, sometimes they just won't work 
at all.

I only use Plextor drives in my Suns and SGIs, they always work right 
this first time.  Unfortunately, that's the only advice I have - get a 
supported CD reader.    Sorry....
