simpler than that.  the history of the marketplace is that
marketeering trumps technical excellence every time.  look at beta vs.
vhs, for example.

gates knows this; m$ is is primarily a marketing company; they've
never innovated anything.  and they're the 800-lb gorilla and can
swamp any competitor's advertising simply by producing more.

it's interesting in this light to note that they bought a company a
few years ago, to kill their superior approach to posix compliance for
nt - and now that company's product, now a -microsoft- product, is the
core of their own posix compliance pkg, finally replacing m$'s own
with the latest release.
