"Have you tried Opera ?

yup.

"I'm not sure what cpu/os target they compile for..... but if it works
"it should be likely faster than mozilla on that box.
"
"I've had good luck with the latest beta... it has only died once so
"far (and when it does you can start right back up where you left off).

i use 5.1b fairly often. even though it was compiled for s7 there's a
workaround which works... tried opera 7.whatever, and they've
apparently raised the bar too high. even with the workaround, s8 bins
aren't happy on 2.6.

they claim they don't/can't have enough old machines lying around to
compile for every permutation - but they don't -need- one machine for
every os. they don't even need machines supported by that os.

the intelligent solution is to install the older os on a separate
slice and mount it somewhere - say as /solaris_2.6/ - nfs or loopback
mount home and src directories etc, and set up a chrooted login env...
then, when you log in, you will be in a sort of virtual 2.6 machine.
the s2.6 apps, including compiler tools, will still run happily on a
s9 ultra. in fact, if s9 still includes the bcp, one could compile
for sunos4 this way.

i wonder if one could build and install *bsd and linux/sparc this way?
