   Well, old plotters are pretty much identical to new plotters.  And 
new plotters are fairly heavily used in M.E. and electronics shops.  
The vector kind, that is...not the overgrown ink-jet printers which 
have almost completely replaced vector (pen) plotters in the 
architectural drafting world.

   They're also used with high-end test equipment.  Many people (myself 
included) haven't reacted too well to test equipment vendors' attempts 
to replace real test equipment with PCs and data acquisition cards 
running Windows software over the past few years.  An HP 54111D 
digitizing oscilloscope and an HP 7550A pen plotter are an unbeatable 
combination for tearing apart a fast transient signal.
