Dell laptops and usb keyboard probs, man reminds me of a friend with an
8000 that tried installing Solaris x86 a year or so ago.  If he used the
integrated keyboard, when he hit the key for english at the language
selection, mass character spewage would show up on the screen, and his
install had to be aborted.  Using a USB keyboard from the beginning was a
nogo, it wouldnt work either.  What he had to do was use the integrated
keypad until that point, then at that part attach and use the usb keypad.
Similarly, to use it, he had to use the integrated keypad to boot, and usb
keypad once the OS was booted.
