   "Fit for sleeping" is a subjective thing.  This was one computer, a 
DEC PDP-11/34a, consisting of two 6' racks and one 4' rack...the 4' 
rack was an RK07 disk drive.  That system sounded like a jet plane, and 
was powered from three 15A circuits with long orange extension cords.  
My grandmother (I lived with her at the time) wasn't too happy with it 
(noise and electric bills), but she said it was better than my being 
out drinking and smoking pot like everyone else in school. ;)

   I found the fan noise very, very relaxing.  Now, I can't sleep at all 
in a silent room...I need some fan noise of some sort or I simply can't 
fall asleep.
