With a FDDI ring, you get 100Mbps total bandwidth for the ring.  With a
FDDI switch, you get 100Mbps for each port.  Machine A can be sending a
file to machine B using 100Mbps while machine C sends a file to machine D
using 100Mbps, and they can all be on the same network.
