I think it's about 22 for women unless you are a nurse or doctor. However,
if you can walk and mumble a little hebrew you can join the police auxiliary
at any age.

Once you've been there about six months they will sponsor you for a handgun 
permit. If you join a sniper unit, after about six months they will let
you take home a '98 Mouser in .308 nato, and after a year or so let
you buy your own rifle. 

The catch is your spend you weekends and holidays doing things like looking
for missing children, providing security at demonstratons, and snipers
have to lie in the grass or on building roofs watching for terrorists
to crash public events.

You're expected to show up weekly to practice your shooting (at their 
expense).
