[rescue] Octane CPU (a word of warning!)

A word of warning (some good and bad news) ...

I won the last one that he auctioned with the same
part number: 030-1432-001. The good news: This is _NOT_ a
250 Mhz R10K. It is really a 270 Mhz R12K cpu. Now for the
bad news: It will _NOT_ run on any of the octane 030-887-xxx
motherboards. It requires a 030-1432-xxx motherboard. From
what I understand, this has to do with this particular CPU
requiring a specific revision of one of the chips on the
motherboard. The R12k CPUs that run >= 300 Mhz will work with
either motherboard, but not the 270 Mhz one. I'd suggest
that you do a Deja search to confirm this for yourself.

If your octane has a 030-1432-xx motherboard, then you are
all set! If not, you might consider holding on to your 175 Mhz
CPU until you find a new motherboard. BTW, I've been watching
Ebay myself for one, but haven't seen one (that was affordable)
show up yet. If anyone knows of a source for these, please let
us know!
