Depends ...

If it's got a flap-down eject mechanism, it's likely to be as slow as 
molasses, but if it's a slot-eject mechanism it might not be too bad.

I haven't had problems with any 8mm drives I've used, but there are 
certainly reliability problems which I believe are associated with 
using video grade tapes.
