why do non-redhat systems (I'm assuming you mean GNU/linux only) not
include the user-id field in /etc/crontab?  I thought all GNU/linux
systems used Vixie's cron implementation, which at least in its *BSD
incarnation includes the user-id field in /etc/crontab.
