[rescue] 1/2" Tape Drive Help

   How "hard" does it blow?  Does the element just melt away or
does it go *bang* and coat the inside of the glass with metal?

   If it's the latter, you might want to check the rectifiers on the
primary (input) side.  I've seen a few of those go in my time and
fortunately they're easy fixes.  Note that I'm assuming the supply
is a switcher here.
