Nope. Any ciscoSystems device with a console port that accepts and 8-pin
modular plug (RJ48C) connects via a rollover cable and an adapter that
accepts an RJ48C plug and presents a 9-pin female D-shell for connection
to the workstation's serial port.
A rollover cable is a length of flat telco cable with 8 conductors, and
2 connectors arranged like this:
=---------------------------------=
` '
(plug) (cable) (plug)
So, when you bring the connectors next to each other, the orientation of
the pins should be mirror images of each other. That is, the color of
wire connected to pin 8 on one should be the color of wire connected to
pin 1 on the other.
If you're using a ciscoSystems Catalyst 2802 or other device with a 9-pin
male D-shell connector for the console port, just use a null-modem cable,
but be sure that you're talking to /dev/ttyd?, since they don't use
hardware flow-control, either.
