Out of curiosity, have you looked at or used tiobench? 
http://sourceforge.net/projects/tiobench/

It does some neat things that netiher IOZone nor Bonnie do out of the
box (to the best of my knowledge).  Not necessarily spectacular or
groundbreaking, but important anyway.
