I eventually figured that out as I was thinking about how one would
create a damascus steel barrel.  I've never actually seen one - I've
seen pictures, but never "in the flesh".  Probably quite a feat, given
the number of gun shows I've gone to...

Thanks to this list, I learned something today.  Some serious gaps in my
knowledge have been filled :)
