Try from the boot monitor:

>>boot -f sash

and then at the sash prompt:

sash: setenv bootfile "dksc(0,1,8)sash"
sash: boot dksc()unix initstate=s

Now the above I have tried with 5.3 on an Indy, so no guarantees about
other OS versions/hardware. Still, I think it should work.
