You have to turn it on from the system set up screen. I don't remember
exactly where its at.  It doesn't make all that much of a difference in
visual looks, but the faster CD drive makes for faster loading...and the
faster CPU keeps the system from bogging down on heavy graphics usage.

Probably not.  Linux isn't actually running on the PS2 hardware.  You have
to boot something akin to IBM VM first, then Linux runs on top of that.
So if they don't put the hooks for the other hardware in the VM, you aint
never gonna get to it unless you write your own VM.
