Why the heck didn't they just order more pizza.  It is that sort of
short cited thinking... Unless that was just an excuse.

So, start your own company.  

And there are other places than ISPs.  I spent most of highschool
working in the IT department of an insurance co. (when I started I was
the second IT guy, and when I left there were 3 other IT guys and 2
nearly full time consultants).
