[rescue] ILM and SGI libGLU

It appears that ILM is switching in a big way to Linux.

I guess it makes more sense than Irix for renderfarms, although one
would still wish they could find something other than intel.
Personally, I wonder how well a rack of the cheapest Netra's possible
with their RAM maxed would do for a renderfarm, but that's beside the
point.
In the article, them mention replacing Mesa's libGLU with the SGI
OpenGL reference implementation libGLU. Obviously they are still
stuck with the libGL provided by nvidia, which is presumably derived
from Mesa still.
Has anyone else tried making such a swap? Why wouldn't most distros
have done it already?
I might try it, although truth be told when programming I use GLU
extremely little, although I probably should use it more (in theory, a
vender supplied GLU will implement things like curved surfaces in ways
that are fastest for their particular card).
