Wrong Packard Bell. That Packard Bell (a subsidiary of the one that
made A/V equipment that had MTBF's of 30,000 years) went out of
business in the early 80's. In 88 or so, some very bright Korean
gentleman had the idea of tracking down whoever held the rights to the
name, buying it, and Presto! having a very recognizable company name
with a built in reputation for quality. Took them 5 years or so to
destroy the rep, but, in the mean time, they sold more computers than
Leading Edge...

As an addendum, Leading Edge may have actually been Hyundai or Daewoo
or one of the other Korean mega-corp's.
