Its not?  I have no problems with anything GNU after doing the following:

- replace Sun make with GNU make (I rename the original to "sun.make")
- replace Sun tar with GNU tar
- put GNU stuff in /usr/local/
- properly setup $PATH and $LD_LIBRARY_PATH
