If one uses proper mouse posture, the the apple mouse is great. I
think that even with correct posture the DEC mouse would be too large.

Likewise, with proper posture, the quality, or lack there of, of a
keyboard wrist rest is irrelevent.

Ideally, you chair is the height so that with your feet flat on the
floor, your knees form a right angle[1]. Then, yours arms should go
nearly straight down, then form an obtuse, but close to right angle at
your elbows. Your wrists should be straight, and your palms should be
a good distance[2] from the keyboard and mouse. Your wrists shouldn't
rest on anything, and you should be sitting straight (or leaning
forward slightly).

This incidently is also the proper posture for playing the piano.
Alas at no place I have even been have the chairs and desks been the
proper heights for me to have proper posture, nor have the pianos and
piano benches (or stools).

Currently at work, my chair is so short that my butt is below my
knees, and my desk is at a height that I have to reach up to it.
Really pathetic.

Why wait for them to come? Go find the triffids and welcome them warmly.

[1] This assumes you aren't using a kneeling chair.

[2] General rule is large enough to hold a tennis ball. People with
large hands need to be a bit higher, people with small hands need to
be a bit smaller.
