No, that is not the case when using the Voodoo2 in a PC either.  It is
only the case when using drivers that force it on you.  Linux for x86
also has was to use the Voodoo2 as a framebuffer in 2D mode.  You just
won't get your BIOS messages on the screen with a Voodoo2.
