You also need support for the SGI partition type, since IRIX CDs have
multiple partitions.

It's a toss-up. The Indy has an IP24 motherboard, but uses an IP22
kernel (just like the R4x00 I2s). However, there are some device
differences, and an I2-specific kernel may lack the necessary drivers
(like GIO-32 and NewPort gfx) to successfully boot an Indy. I'm going
to bet that it'll boot far enough to give you some fatal error.
