The 2D quality of the Nvidia based cards largely depend on the quality of
the design by the manufacturer. As far as the performance goes, the 2D
acceleration has now surpassed all Matrox cards and is no longer being used
as a comparison in most reviews due to the irrelevance of it now. Only 2D
quality is compared. I've owned many Matrox cards and they've all had
excellent 2D quality and performance, but Matrox has fallen behind as far as
3D is concerned. You can get much more bang for your buck by choosing an
Nvidia based card made by a high-quality, reputable manufacturer.

Erm, that is "Good 2D" and "Excellent 3d for games". Their 2d ain't
good enough to be called excellent. I've owned and/or used all of the
Matrox cards since the Millenium, and all of the nVidia cards since the
TNT. The Matrox Millenium II is better than the current nVidia GeForce
4 TI 4600.
