Probably "OSB", or Oriented Strand Board.  It's like ply-wood, only
cheaper, and not as strong.  7/8" must be some heavy duty stuff though,
they use 1/2" for out roof.  5/8" and 3/4" are more typical in the
construction work that I've done.
