[rescue] NetBSD NIS Problems

replied, so I'm hoping that maybe somebody here can help)

All,

 I am having some problems using NIS on a NetBSD 1.5.2/alpha system. The 
problem is, if I lose network connectivity, I cannot login as root from the 
console.  Well, actually, the best I can tell, it looks like it is 
authenticating, displaying /etc/motd, but then hanging before giving me a 
shell prompt, displaying a bunch of console messages griping about the 
network being down...

Apr 10 09:57:39 eclipse ypbind[143]: broadcast: sendto: Network is down
Apr 10 09:57:42 eclipse rpcbind: connect from 127.0.0.1 to 
getport/addr(ypbind)
Apr 10 09:57:45 eclipse ypbind[143]: broadcast: sendto: Network is down
Apr 10 09:57:45 eclipse ypbind[143]: broadcast: sendto: Network is down
Apr 10 09:57:51 eclipse ypbind[143]: broadcast: sendto: Network is down
Apr 10 09:57:52 eclipse rpcbind: connect from 127.0.0.1 to 
getport/addr(ypbind)

Of course I have an entry for root in the local /etc/passwd and
/etc/master.passwd files, and my "passwd" entry in /etc/nsswitch.conf looks 
like...

passwd:         files nis

and I have tried it with....

passwd:         compat
passwd_compat:  nis

with no luck. (And I've also got +:*:0:0::: as the last line in /etc/passwd 
for compat
mode to work properly.)

So what am I missing?
