Except as soon as we do that, the only thing with inherent value is
energy.  So, either only energy has value, or people persuade the
government to give intellectual property rights above and beyond the worst
imaginable abuses, so that a few lawyers have something that they can
trade for energy. 

Or maybe by that time, they will find a way to create energy in endless
supplies from thin air.
