Could be totally offbase: is this an LSI L1A rev of the SS10?  If so they
had a hardware bug which could induce hangs under heavy load of both the
onboard SCSI and ethernet.  Sun later fixed this and released machines
with the updated L1B chips instead.

Odds are the CPU module is flaky, though.
