"uber" (as in "uber geek") is a somewhat americanized version of "ber",
but without the two dots above the letter U. The correct letter ""
sounds like a "Y", like in the word "luxury".
If you look up the word "ber" it means something like "over", "ahead"
or words like that. "ber alles", as for example, would mean "above
all".

Do keep in mind that German (and other european languages) is very
different from English/U.S.English, not just word-wise different. Heck,
it's even complicated between all the European languages. :-)
