The SS5 is sending out some sort of junk at the end of the probe-scsi
command, probably a Control-S (X-off), which tells the terminal to shut up
for a while. Since it doesn't know it sent that, it never sends the
corresponding Control-Q (X-on) to tell the terminal to talk again. I
suppose it's possible that probe-scsi is hitting the hardware flow control
lines (RTS/CTS) on the serial port, but that seems really unlikely.

Try setting the terminal up for no flow control at all, and see what you
get. If you can put the terminal (or emulator) into some sort of debug
mode, you might be able to see what the actual problem character is.
