[SunRescue] How to find a Sun-Bootable CD-ROM

Folks, since this is a topic of interest to
many, I though I would share some insights.
I have successfully found Sun-bootable
CD-ROMs in external cases (4x, caddy-type)
for as little as $20, an HP Omnibook 8x SCSI
external CD-ROM for $40, and the SS20 that is
soon to leave my desk has a 24x Sony
"suck it right into the slot" drive in an
external enclosure that I picked up for
$75. The key is to find a seller who
lists the actual part numbers of the drive
(or who will answer questions) and to do
a little homework. In my experience most
Toshiba/Panasonic and Sony drives of 32x
or less have some way to be put into the
appropriate mode. Even the ones that lack
a jumper can usually boot properly on sun4m
architecture...I've had less success (but
still overall good results) with sun4c.

YMMV--but feel free to ask if this is of
interest.
