Ah, yeah, that would be it.  She thinks I am beyond hopeless...

I tried Naji's suggestion (and Bill's).  I looked at the docs on the patch 
from Sun that will flash the PROM.  According to the docs, I already have 
the latest OBP installed, and don't need to flash it. Hmmm.

Anyway, I've emailed the technician that Naji said had done it hundreds of 
times, so maybe he can help.  I'll report back!
