The book _Solaris Security_ by Peter H. Gregory (published by Sun Microsystems
Press) contains a short section on what nscd does and why you should consider
disabling it on pages 198-200.

It was really designed for an NIS+ environment and can cause all sorts of
problems, including corrupted cache, CPU utilization, memory leaks, and
other problems.

A quick search on SunSolve popped up a *lot* of bug reports centered around
nscd...
