Regarding your interest in an SS/20 - I don't know what your price point is,
but unless you have a well-stocked parts bin (or sources of low-cost
SBUS/MBUS bits), I would suggest you either up your system spec's a bit or
consider waitng for Ultra 1s to get cheaper.

If you feel the need for SMP, I'd suggest you look for a system that more
closely matches your goal. Buying parts to upgrade an SS/20 is not cheap. To
get a "good" SS/20 system, you will probably spend near-Ultra 1 levels of
cash (IMHO).

If you feel like taking a chance, you could always go for an SS/5-170 from
Supersellers.net (I know, I know), but a $250 SS/5-170 w/4 Gig HD, 64 Meg
RAM, TGX and refurbed by Sun is a decent deal. When I get rid of my
SS/5-110s (avg. price $125/each w/64 Meg RAM, 4 Gig HD, TGX + S/H) I plan on
taking a chance on one of these SS/5-170s. My goal is to convert 5 boxes (3x
SS/5 and 2x SS/10 ) into an SS/5-170 + a few hundred dollars in my pocket...

Already sold one SS/5-110 on Ebay, and the 2x SS/10s are going to ship out
soon...

I wouldn't spend a lot of money on an SS/20 - having said that, I am very
happy with my SS/20 w/2xSM71, 256 Meg RAM, 4 Meg VSIMM - it is nice, but I
think my out-of-pocket cost was around $350. I got lucky on Ebay.

Oh, 4x SCSI towers are available at many places - why do you want to use 4x
5 1/4" drives? the case to hold them will cost more than a replacement
higer-density drive or two.

See: http://www.scsistuff.com/109-0051.htm 9x half-height tower, $155

Ken
