>>I would not recommend NetBSD on a sparc.
I would but only for headless operation. Works fine on my "IPX/MP3 alarm
clock". ;-)
>>I would recommend OpenBSD.
I'd recommend it too - if I could ever get it to load. 2.8 does not seem to
want to boot on my Sparcs - floppy or CD. I can't try out all the security
"stuff" I've heard so much about. :-(
>>I would recommend FreeBSD as best on the PeeCee hardware.
Linux Debian works well for me for low-end PC hardware but then I haven't
bothered to pick up a current copy of FreeBSD either. My 486DX4-100/24meg
laptop runs Debian and plays MP3 files. YMMV

End-use really is the issue here.
>>So, for your Sparc, I would hedge my bet on OpenBSD.
If you can get it to run.
Remember your time is valuable, not just your hardware. It may not be worth
it if you spend a month trying to get one Sparc box loaded. (Been there,
Done That, Bought the Tee-Shirt.) Remember when all else fails the proper
version of Solaris will load 99% of the time for the hardware it supports.
