My main desktop machine at the office is an Indigo 2 non-IMPACT machine
with an Extreme video boardset.  With 256Mb of ram in it, its pretty
snappy & responsive...and all of the graphics stuff I do on it is very
quick.

They can be had pretty inexpensively these days.
