[rescue] support contracts (was: lots of other cruft)

when it comes to crunch time, sitting around with the other admins and trying
to work it out is not an option.  given the time, working it out yourself is
fun and rewarding.  crunchtime + weird setups: most support people (at least
from Sun IME) will be more than happy to get put to a speakerphone to hash
the situation out with you.
