[SunRescue] (way OT): Pallets

True most of us work in the IT field and get cast-offs but a big part of
most of the equipment I get is just keeping my ears open. I only rarely buy
things.
For instance - how I got the Macs, an Alpha, quite a few VT terminals, as
well as some other stuff:
I was helping a good friend of mine with his system at home and happened to
mention to his father that I was a packrat at heart. His eyes lit up and
said "We're throwing some stuff out at work want to stop buy and take a look
at it?". Now even had I not worked in the IT field he probably would have
said this because he knows how much of a computer enthusiast I am.
Regardless my friend and I went to his office with my friend's pickup and
basically reduced a 30 foot diameter pile of equipment to 1/3 it's size by
the time we were done. Thus I ended up with 6 Quadra(s) of various types
and 6 Mac SE(s) of various types as well as quite a few more pieces of
equipment. (I even got a couple of easily repaired chairs for my home
office.)
You just have to keep your feelers out there and draw things to you.
"What we don't have we'll make. What we can't make we'll borrow. What we
can't borrow we'll steal." - Honor Harrington, On Basilisk Station.
As for the Mac I'm not interested unless it's PPC in nature. (I have far
too many 68K Macs.)

Mike,
I am just suprised at the speed. I am a pack rat, and I do have way to
much stuff. I am trying to get rid of stuff..... to make room for more
:-) I guess I just take longer to accumulate it. Part of it is because
I don't work in the computer field, so I can't get company cast-offs
like a lot of you can on the list. I have to rely on Goodwill amd
Ebay. Most of my stuff is PC related, although I have a bunch of
Apple// stuff too. Fortunetly, I managed to get the Apple// stuff down
to a level I am happy with. My PS/2 collection has grown a little
recently, However.
You want another Mac.... I have one I'll sell you cheap :-)
